This week I’m most excited about launching the first Travel Belle Writer News! Conceived as a means to better keep in touch with our growing list of submitters and contributors, we think many travel writers will find much here of interest as well.
This month we explain Google+ authorship (as far as we understand it, anyway), include a writing exercise from travel writer, Don George’s book, Lonely Planet Guide to Travel Writing, and share some tips on submitting photos with your writing to online publications.
Travel Belle Writer News October 2012 #1I’m currently working through my tattered copy of Don George’s excellent, Lonely Planet Guide to Travel Writing. I always find this book …
Now for a few things from around the web from around the web we’re enjoying:
First a favorite Instagram from @ziziadventures, also known to us as our contributor, Zita Nagy. Zita is one of my personal favorite Instagrammers to follow. Most of her drool worthy shots are of food as she buys and prepares it, but she also shares Instagrams from in and around her native Budapest. I’m going to be visiting Budapest in December and this shot made me very excited. Hopefully I will have the chance to meet Zita too!

Associate editor Briana Palma’s article on Dublin design shop, “Designist” in The Genteel. This shop stocks what what one of the owners describes as “stuff that makes your life a little bit nicer and a little bit better.” Who wouldn’t want that? Designist sounds like just the kind of place I’d like to pop in when I get to Dublin someday (hopefully to see Briana!)
The Genteel | Making Noise About Irish DesignOne shop in Dublin has plenty to celebrate this summer. Affordable design store designist is hosting UPROAR, a series of pop-up shops tha…
I can’t resist sharing my photo essay that appeared on Sharing Travel Experiences from my bucket list worthy trip to Anchorage, Alaska, last month. It was a trip where I was glad I took so many photos! If I didn’t, truly I would probably think now I must have dreamt it.
Photo Essay: The Alaska Small Cruise Experience in a DayWell, " are you going on a cruise? " is the most typical question you might hear when you tell your friends you are going to Alaska. Even…
I always enjoy living vicariously through the adventures of our friend and editor of Vegas Magazine, Abby Tegnelia, via her blog, the Jungle Princess. She claims she’s not really a jetsetter (one of the many reasons we love her), but I dunno – last minute jaunts to LA via private jet, hitting the red carpet and meeting Dennis Quaid all sound pretty glamorous to us.
Jetsetter for a day | The Jungle PrincessI always get teased about being a "jetsetter," which I think is funny since I hardly think scraping together pennies from a journalist’s …
Katy Stewart has been busy lately with her new job as a teacher and we miss her posts! She did manage to squeeze in this recent story with some tidbits on haggling on her blog, Starry Eyed Travels. I’m loving the concept of “passive haggling.”
The Art of Haggling (and when not to do it) – Starry-Eyed TravelsWherever I am in the world, one of my favourite pastimes is browsing the local markets, whether it’s a flea market in London, a souk in M…
My week wouldn’t be complete without admiring a few of our community manager’s photos. Every time I see them I’m stunned by the fact that Krista Bjorn uses a point and shoot (a Nikon Coolpix L20) to capture her remarkable and emotion inducing images. Here’s a recent black and white photo essay that will inspire you to go to Paris in the fall:
