Our second Weekly Question in May asked: What’s your favorite travel-related film? As it turns out, we’re all big film fans, and the conversation took off both in the forum and on Twitter – but most of us found it too hard to choose just one!

We introduced each other to films from a whole range of genres and eras and enthused over common favourites together. So, what’s on the Travel Belles ‘Must-see Movies’ list?

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the newest film on the list, had rave reviews from Justine, Margo and Andrea, encouraging the rest of us to rush to see it – it’s a breath of fresh air to have a modern travel movie holding its own amongst the classics.

The romance of Italy proved a draw for both Krista and Amanda Summers, who recommended Under the Tuscan Sun. They’re both fans of the Mediterranean in general – Mamma Mia makes Krista want to live in Greece, while it’s the fun and feisty Summer Lovers which has Amanda lusting for Santorini.

Jennifer is a fan of escapism in her movies, and loved being swept away to paradise by The Beach and Eat, Pray, Love (though when she visited the real ‘Beach’,  she found it wasn’t quite as it appeared on-screen!)

Amanda Kusek and Brittany both enjoy epic, story-led movies, citing the big-hitting classics African Queen and Into the Wild as their respective favourites.

Judith, meanwhile, took us on a merry dance to Brazil, sharing a classic Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movie, Flying Down to Rio. It was a film which inspired her to go to the legendary city, though she sadly didn’t dance on the wing of her plane.

Margo prefers a good roadtrip – whether it’s an old classic like It happened One Night, or a feisty chick-flick like Thelma and Louise. Katy loves roadtrip movies too, though in her favorite, The Motorcycle Diaries, there’s not a car to be seen.

Below is the entire list suggested by the Travel Belles – between us, we covered all continents of the globe! Is your favorite among them, or do you have your own to add?

Remember, there’s a new question posted each week – answer in the forum and get involved with the discussion on Twitter using the hashtag #TBCafeChat!

  1. It is the best film to inspire a trip through Latin America, isn’t it? I hope you’re having an incredible time – where are you now? I am desperate to go back!
