Trendy Retro Beach Essentials

Retro beach toteWhether your visiting the beaches of Hawaii or the beaches of Italy, the Travel Belles have got your trendy  beach essentials of the season ready.

I don’t know about you but now that the Holidays are over the winter blahs have stepped in, I find myself dreaming of a sunny and warm destination for my next trip.  If you’re lucky enough to be getting away this winter then this list of beach essentials will definitely come in handy.  Retro is all the rage right now in beach fashion trends for 2011, and let’s face it, Marilyn Monroe knew how to wear a swimsuit and she wasn’t supermodel thin.  So this beach season embrace your curves and have fun with a retro swimsuit and some cool shades.

First up is the ever-important beach bag. My Twitter friend Susan first introduced me to the wonderful world of Etsy.com.  Etsy allows small independent (and handmade) businesses to sell their custom items to the world. I’ve recently started buying cute handmade items and I love supporting hardworking, creative independent businesses. I came upon this bag a couple months ago and I instantly fell in love.  The yellow and blue colors remind me of the umbrella loungers in the south of France.  It’s the perfect accessory for any beach lover.

The must-have of must-have items for any beach vacation is of course the swimsuit. It is also the item that we most love to hate.  Recently retro fashions have been making a comeback especially in swimsuits and fortunately this suit is flattering for any body shape and size.  This “beach blanket bingo” swimsuit from ModCloth.com is perfect for any beach holiday.

If it’s hot and sunny chances are you’re going to need a great pair of sunglasses.  Theseretro sunglasses from Amazon.com are stylish and affordable.  You do not need to spend an arm and a leg on a pair of great glasses.   Many sites such as Amazon offer affordable options to meet any budget.Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

**No beach vacation is complete without a stack of great books.  However too many books in my suitcase have put me close to being over the weight limit on my past several trips. Although I’m not entirely convinced about eReaders, Amazon Kindle does allow me to take ten books with me without the suitcase baggage limit.

My beach read recommendation has to be Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger. On beach vacations I really prefer light, fluffy click lit reads and this book is just that.

Inspiring envy from me and I’m sure countless others of you who are out there dreaming of warmer places right now, Cailin just returned from a vacation in Jamaica. And yeah – the envy has almost as much to do with those cool PURPLE retro shades as the trip itself {!}

I’m an office worker by day & cook/baker/photographer/writer by night. I love all types of music despite my husband playing in a heavy metal band. Happily married, I enjoy traveling often with my husband much to the disappointment of our miniature dachshund Minnie. My favorite place in the world is Paris, France but Myrtle Beach, South Carolina will always hold a special place in my heart. Julia Child is my idol.
