The classic Italian scooter was (and still is) an Italian two-wheeled icon.
The coveted Vespa 50 still reaps fans all over the world. But take the pink Scarabeo portrayed here. Is it not simply magnifico? The Scarabeo (made by a subsidiary of Piaggio, which fabricates Vespas) is generally acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful motorinos around, while the Vespa is THE classic scooter. Vespa means “wasp,” while scarabeo–buzzes along in an insect word play–meaning, “beetle.”
The Scarabeo is a powerful, and yet safer scooter: the larger wheels make it more stable on the road over potholes or severely cracked Italian road surfaces. I have not seen many pink ones around, and judging by that knock-off LV trunk, I’d say this is one classy custom job.
Can you just imagine the Belle that rides this beauty?

We love it too, Chuck! I think it sort of looks like a Barbie toy. We’ve been having a discussion over on the Facebook page about what color Vespa everyone would choose and so far no one’s chosen the same one twice!
Pink is a color that has a certain attraction with a small segment of the ridership. Not for me, but my riding buddy did ride is partner’s pink Stella from Seattle to Montana with me a couple of years ago. We were going to a Vintage Motorcycle Road Rally in Montana. I’m sure you can imagine a few eyes rolling when we pull up amongst the 1930’s era Indian and Harley motorcycles. Hah! A pink stella and a red Vespa. To the old-timers credit, I heard nary a disparaging word and we rode with them for the next 3 days.

Pink isn’t my colour so I’m trying to imagine a Vespa with Gregory Peck on it. Give me fire engine red any time! But then I’ve always lusted after another Italian, a red Ducati! 🙂
